Review: Walking Wings
I must say, the first time I saw Walking Wings, I wasn't super interested. I'd never seen anything like them, and I didn't really know what to think. When Upspring, the company who makes this product, offered us one for review, I jumped at the chance to try them as I wanted to understand them better. And I must say I'm glad I did.
Walking Wings were developed to help babies walk more naturally and to help make the learning process easier. At the same time, it can really help the parent reduce the back pain by allowing us to stand straight instead of hunched over holding the babies hands. It's machine washable and drier safe. Fits chest circumferences between 19 and 26 inches.
Andy didn't love this product at first. He started screaming when we first put it on, before we even tried walking him. We had to use it when he was in his best mood and let him sit there with it around his torso so he would get used to it before we tried the walking. Once he was comfortable, we stood him up, then we tried using it. Walking Wings is definitely great for tall people like my husband because he really could stand naturally while he helped Andy walk. And by not holding Andy's hands, Andy was able to use his arms to balance himself better, which is more natural. One thing we did notice is that the baby has to be willing to stand and walk to use it. If they defiantly refuse to stand like Andy did a few times, it's not going to happen. And Andy's just a little big too young to truly start walking yet, so I definitely think this would work best for children who are really ready for that stage. But overall it's a great product and one that we will be using a ton in the next few months.
One thing to be careful of is if you have a particularly chunky baby. Andy is just huge, one reason we think he isn't that close to walking yet. Walking Wings do fit around his chest, but barely.
Walking Wings are available at a number of different retailers, including One Step Ahead, Babies R Us, Target, and Amazon.
