Review: Siente: Night Songs from Around the World
We recently started playing music for Anderson at bedtime. Just like children all over the world, the soft lullabies definitely help him fall asleep. In fact, Siente: Night Songs From Around the World is a great testament to that fact. Each song is a traditional lullaby from a different part of the world. Some lyrics are sung in their traditional dialects and others are sung in English.
The music is primarily acoustic guitar played by Hilary Field, with some instrumental accompaniment. The combination of guitar, flute, english horn, violins, and others creates a very soothing sound. The vocals by Patrice O'Neill are beautiful and soothing. They are sure to put anybody to sleep, baby or otherwise.
As I mentioned before, these lullabies are from all over the world. The album starts off with At the Gate of Heaven, a traditional Basque lullaby. Strangely this song is on our other CD of nighttime music so I recognized it right away. I had no idea that the song was from the Basque region of Spain. Following that are traditional Irish, Russian, Spanish, Indonesian, Italian, Czech, Belgian, Brazilian, Sephardic, Guatemalan, and Mexican lullabies.
We're going to try playing this CD for Anderson for a few nights before we pass final judgement. But from listening to it, I have absolutely no doubt that he'll love it as much as I do. We'll let you know how it goes!
