Review: Baby Jamz

We've been lucky enough to be able to review a few products from Baby Jamz, a new toy company started by the father and sister of singer Beyonce. According to the company,

This musical toy line is the first ever hip-hop/rhythym-inspired preschool toy line that promotes learning, creativity, and movement through music. Solange (Beyonce's sister) can be heard singing many of the nursery rhymes featured with the toys and on the accompanying CD.

First up is the Baby Jamz Mix Master Chair. There were a few buttons that you could press while it was still in the box, and Andy seemed to love it before it was even put together. He kept going back to it, pushing the buttons over and over. It was easy to put together, all we needed was a Phillips screwdriver. Once it was completed, Andy was quite excited. He sat in the chair, pressed the buttons, stood up and pressed them some more, than sat down and did this all over again. And he hasn't stopped. All he wants to do is play with this toy. He's dragged it all over our upstairs wherever he's gone.

Each arm of the chair has colorful buttons that the baby can push. One one side are three different shaped buttons that each play a hip hop version of a nursery rhyme. The other side has four numbered buttons that add mixing sound effects to the song. This means that there are a ton of different ways the child can play each song. The seat of the chair even has a large button in the shape of musical notes that makes the arm buttons light up when pressed or sat on. The seat is a good size for the intended ages, 12-36 months. Andy fits in it pretty well, but he's a very large baby. My only wish for this toy is that their was volume control of some sort. I think it could be a bit loud for some parents. You can turn the noise off though with a button underneath the chair. Each song can also go on for a while, so you may get them stuck in your head if your child likes the chair as much as ours does!

The other product is the Boom Box Shape Sorter. I am a big fan of this toy because it doesn't take up much space and is easy to use. It has three differently shaped blocks that when placed into the boom box starts it playing the music. It's like a shape sorter without the blocks falling through. When all three are placed in correctly, the entire song plays. You can also push the blocks in like a button to get the music to start if they are already in their spots. There are also three buttons to mix sounds into the songs. Four songs rotate through, so you won't potentially hear the same song over and over again like you can with the chair. I wish this product had some sort of volume control too.

Andy is already a big fan of Baby Jamz, and we will be looking into their other products in the future. We highly recommend them to anyone whose child likes music or anyone who wants to bring more music into their child's playtime. They are very unique toys, and we think you'll love them just as much as we do!
