Holiday Survival Guide from Super Cool Baby

It's the Holidays. Lights are twinkling in malls, trees are lined up in parking lots, Santas are ringing bells on street corners. The most wonderful time of the year? Not for a lot of folks. Don't let the scenery get you down. If you are one of the millions of people unemployed or struggling, know that you are not alone. There are a lot of ways to enjoy this time of year without breaking the bank.

Don't feel pressure to buy this year's "must have toy." Do you remember last year's must have, gotta have gift? I sure don't. Even if your little one has their heart set on one of the hot toys, you can frequently find "knock offs" or similar toys for much less.

Teachers, letter carriers and bus drivers are people too. Chances are they have been hit by the economic downturn as well. Scale back on expensive presents for this group. I know a mom of an autistic child that has NINE therapists. Each year she buys a five dollar gift card to a coffee shop for each of them. She wants to thank them, but still has to keep to a budget.

If you a baby on your list don't feel like you have to buy tons of toys. Most likely, they are having plenty of fun playing with pots and pans under the cupboard. You can buy simple necessities such as Sassy Baby's First Rattle and Teether 5 Piece Gift Set or Skip Hop Hare Brush and Comb Set. The baby will enjoy tearing the paper and the parents might appreciate the break.

Don't underestimate the power of an adorable little face in a frame. This Stephen Joseph Foto Friends will warm the heart of any grandparent, or parent with some desk space at work.

Lastly, remember this downturn won't last forever. Some experts say the turnaround is already taking place. Who knows where the truth lies. Only you can assess when your situation has stabilized. One thing to remember during good times and bad, what really matters all year long is family, friends and the bond between them.
