New Baby Checklist from Super Cool Baby

Bringing your new baby home is always exciting. It doesn't matter if it's the first time or the last time. It's a milestone most parents never forget. During this busy time, you'll probably have so much to do, it will be hard to keep track of it all. A new baby requires a lot of energy and if you don't properly prepare for that first day home, even the most seasoned parent can lose control. Below are a few suggestions to help you get through those first crucial hours so you can get your baby home safe and sound.
Don't forget the car seat! This is probably one of the first purchases most expectant parents make. After all, you have to get the baby home right? The selection of car seats is so vast that it can be an intimidating process for any parent. Ask yourself, do you want a travel system, a convertible car seat or gender neutral colors for future siblings? Consider safety features. A five point harness is pretty standard among the larger manufactures. Be sure to check the weight limitations on any car seat you choose. The NTSB has a page dedicated to helping you make the right choice.
Once you get your baby home, there are obvious items that any parent would need. Such as a crib with plenty of bedding and blankets. Don't skimp in this area. You might find yourself changing sheets almost everyday for the first few days. And you can use the blankets for swaddling, feeding and clean up if the baby spits up on you. Having a few within arms reach will really come in handy. Speaking of messes, avoid the urge to dress your baby picture perfect everyday.
Save it for grandma's house. For the first few days, comfy pajamas will do just fine.
Feeding supplies are another obvious need. If you breast feed or bottle feed, the items needed will vary. But stock up. Babies can eat way more and you expect and the mess afterward isn't pretty. If your a breast feeding mom, finding a comfortable breast pump is key so you can get a break and dad can pitch in. I'm sure he can't wait. Bottles are important too. Manufacturers are now making bottles BPA free which reduces the amount of chemicals your baby is exposed to.
Safety is any parents main concern. You need to decide if you want a simple baby monitor or a video monitor set. Your specific preference may depend on your budget.
Now that the bare necessities are covered, don't forget the fun items. There are plenty of brightly colored, funny sounding, fun to touch toys to choose from, such as Baby Einstein Takealong Tunes and Baby Einstein Octoplush. You might have as much fun as your baby playing with them. Check out these toys and you will definitely find more than a few that will keep you both happy.
