bullybook.jpg

The issue of school bullying has been grabbing lots of headlines due to the recent tragic events in Massachusetts. It's every parents nightmare. As parents of young children you might think these worries are years away. Sadly, that may not be the case. Studies show that children learn these behaviors a lot younger than you might think. Fortunately, there are resources available for parents to prepare children for such events and how to deal with it after it occurs. Books like, The Anti-Bullying and Teasing Book: For Preschool Classrooms help teachers create positive learning environments that will help prevent bullying from happening at all. A child will spend at least 12 years of his life in school. It is important to get off to a good start.

A good book for discussion about bullying is DON'T CALL ME MICHAEL. It is a children's chapter book and is available from Tate Publishng or Amazon. It is a story about bullying, friendship, and forgiveness. It can be read to younger children and ideas of what kids could do that would be better than what the characters did could help younger kids deal with bullies.
