Baby Must Haves???

I guess every parent has their own list of must have items. It probably changes with every child too. But for me when I think of must haves, a major bib collection is right at the top of the list. My first baby had such bad acid reflux, I still feel like I never had enough on hand. Waterproof bibs like these were great in later years, although clothes ones worked best during the really early months.

This time of year, in most parts of the country, blankets and lots of them, are needed to keep on the go babies toasty. A traditional blanket like one above, can be used in a stroller or while rocking on a chair.

For bedtime, most parents prefer a sleepsack like the one below for safety.

Speaking of safety, most parents of newborns will say a good baby monitor is essential. Video monitors have improved in quality over the years and have features like panning for when your little one ends up on the opposite side of the crib that you placed her. You can also zoom in if you want. That's a far cry from the static filled transmissions of years ago when you could also pick up your neighbors conversations if your monitor was on the wrong frequency.

Regardless of what your specific must have list contains, there will always be a few items that are essentials but special too. Items like favorite toys, old "blankies" and special keepsakes are also "must haves."

Happy Thanksgiving

Today is the day when most of America slows down and reflects on what we are thankful for. I'm thankful for my family and all the wonderful times we have had so far this year. I'm thankful that even during the hard times, we were able to focus on what matters most, this family. I'm looking forward to eating a meal together as a family and preparing for the upcoming holidays. I know I'll enjoy it, because the next day everything starts all over again.

See Happy Thanksgiving.

Holiday Travel with Baby

Preparing for the holidays can be fun or stressful, depending on your perspective. One thing remains the same, it's still hard work. If you are traveling over the hills and through the woods this year to visit friends and family, you will need a few things to keep you sane. Traveling with a big pack and play can be a pain. If you have a toddler, you can choose a simpler option. This travel cot is incredibly quick and easy to set up and fold down. It comes with a removable, machine washable sheet for easy clean up. It's versatile too. You can use it on the beach or on the sideline of a sibling's game.

Sometimes getting to the destination can be half the battle. You need to keep your little one happy and entertained on long road trips. This Elmo Travel Tray fits comfortably over most front facing car seats and can hold crayons, snacks, and other toys. It's perfect for kids who are too young for video games or lack the attention span for movies.

After a road trip does your vehicle look like your baby's room exploded in your car? Mine does. Plastic bags used as garbage bags, juice boxes, travel games, fast food toys are everywhere. You can make clean up a little easier if you at least start organized. This seat back organizer attaches easily to the back of all front seats and holds sippy cups, toys, and other items you might need in a pinch. Older children can easily access the 7 large pockets and 2 cup holders.

If you are brave enough to venture into a crowded airport with your children this year, you can keep your littlest one close by using this Go-Go Kidz Travelmate. It's lightweight and attaches easily to car seats. The rubber wheels will give your little one a smooth ride through the airport. Once you are on the plane, all bets are off.

Soft Elemenosqueeze Alphabet Blocks

It's the toy shopping time of year. Kids of all ages will need something to tear open. Sure, infants tend to be more interested in the brightly colored paper or the box, but eventually they will want to play with the gift inside. At such a young age, it is important that the toy is educational as well as fun. These alphabet blocks fit the bill perfectly. Your baby can learn the alphabet and learn about colors, while also developing motor skills as he plays. Another great feature of this toy is that it is soft. You will appreciate this feature most when your infant tosses the toy in your direction.

Learning Curve Star Teething Blanket

On the list of must haves for a newborn, I'd say this one goes near the top of the list. The variety of soft textures soothes a baby's tender gums and helps with teething pain. Your baby will love the holding the cloth and looking at the bright colors. This teething blanket also has a loop so it can stay attached to a stroller or high chair. That's a useful feature, since you definitely don't want to be stuck without a teether when you need one.

Free Shipping

Does the thought of standing in long lines at a crowded mall during these upcoming weeks cause you to break out in a cold sweat? Then you must be one of the millions of people who love online shopping. Convenience can come at a price though. Literally. Shipping fees can sometimes equal the amount of the purchase. Where is the logic in that?! Fortunately, retailers have come up with a solution for excessive shipping costs. It's called National Free Shipping Day and it is December 17th this year. There is a huge selection of retailers to choose from so you can purchase gifts for virtually everyone on your list.

Of course, you can still go to the mall and wait in a long line. At least this time, you might see Santa at the end of it.

Whacky Ball Hammer Toy

This is the time of year for toys. Toys, toys, toys! If you have a toddler on your list, this might be the toy you are looking for. The clear walls make this ball maze exciting to watch. The ramps, ball drops, twisty tunnel, and exit chute will also keep your toddler intrigued. The hammer used to push the balls into the chute makes a squeek every time it hits a ball. Babies love a toy with a hammer. The trick is to keep the baby from using it on the dog too.

These type of Taggie toys have been hitting the market over the last few years. They are a great idea. Little babies love feeling new and different textures. Classic Cloaks

Little girls love to play dress up. There are so many little princess and fairy costumes to choose from. These classic cloaks are just a little different from your average dress up costume and still encourage imaginary play. You can choose from several different colors, celestial blue, floral pink, Little Red Riding Hood, and teal leaves. The fabric is comfortable and there is ample material in the hood for the full fairy tale effect. After a busy day of play, mom can throw it in the washing machine, just in case things get a little messy in "the forest."

BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Original

If you have been anywhere near a mall these last few weeks, you know that retailers didn't even wait for Halloween before setting up the holiday decorations. It reminds me of a story a friend told me about having a child in each hand and one in a baby carrier while shopping one year. YIKES!! Some of us can relate to that one. If you find yourself in that position, you will want a reliable carrier like this one from Bjorn. This original design is easy to buckle on and it has wide, padded shoulder straps to distribute weight evenly for comfortable carrying. For peace of mind, all fabrics are Oeko Tex Class 1 certified material. That means they are guaranteed harmless to infants. That's one less thing to worry about as you maneuver your way through those crowds.
