SwaddleMe Traveler

swaddlemetraveler.jpg

This is something I wished I had when Andy was an infant. The SwaddleMe Traveler is perfect for car travel. Unlike the regular SwaddleMe, it has legs so that you can still strap your baby in to his car seat or stroller. If you need your baby to sleep when not in bed, this is perfect. It attaches with Velcro, is easy to open when you come inside to prevent overheating, and comes with a matching hat. It fits newborns 7 to 14 lbs.

Tüthillo - A Modern-Day Tooth Fairy Pillow

Tüthillo Pillow

This isn't really for babies, but its so cool that I couldn't pass up telling you all about it. Sure, back when we were kids we just put our offerings for the tooth fairy under the pillow, but kids these days are too wily for that. Enter Tüthillo: a stuffed companion with two pockets: one for a newly lost tooth, and another for the gift left by the tooth fairy. That way, you don't have to fish around under your child's pillow, right under their sleeping head! Tüthillo comes in two colors, purple and lime, with several more on the way next year.

Keep a Journal for Your Newborn

10-0178-01.jpg

When we first brought Anderson home, we tracked everything we could in a little notebook that we carried around the house. We did this because we had no idea what we were doing, and we wanted to answer the "how often" questions they ask you at your first pediatrician visits. Well, if you're bringing a newborn home soon, check out this Baby Tracker: Round the Clock. It's a specially designed spiral-bound journal to keep track of feeding, sleeping, diaper changes, and play time. You can keep all your facts, figures, todo's and notes all in one place. Plus, it'll be a neat keepsake for when your child is older.

Travel Crib Light by Baby Bjorn

babybjorntravelcrib.jpg

While liked our Pack N Play, I have never been good at putting it together, so it was always a bit of a pain to travel with. It always seemed really heavy too. I just discovered the Travel Crib Light by Baby Bjorn, and I think it looks like a great investment. It weighs only 11 lbs, can be opened in one easy motion, and both the waterproof mattress cover and bed fabric are machine washable. It can also be used for newborns up to 3 years old and folds up into a briefcase-like carrying case. If you travel a lot, we think you should consider this crib.

Amenity Bedding

amenity.jpg

I have just discovered Amenity at 2Modern, and I love their new bedding line. Made up of sheets, bumpers, pillows, blankets, and some beautiful wall hangings, it is such a pretty and unique design with a bunch of different forest creatures in high grass. It looks totally cool, and I wish I had known of this when I was planning Andy's nursery. It's also made from organic cotton with low impact dyes, so it's eco friendly as well!

TykeLight

green-bedroom.jpg

The TykeLight is a fully rechargeable, portable night-light. It can go with your child on her way to the bathroom, or under the covers, or outside in the tent. With its soft glow feature, you can use it to check on your little one at night, without disturbing her. A third mode is gentle sleep, which is a 15 minute dimmer that automatically turns the night-light off, hopefully after your child has fallen asleep. Fully charged, the light will run for 10 hours, and if there is a power outage at night, it will automatically turn itself on. The TykeLight is available in blue, orange, green, pink, yellow, and lavender.

Western TeePees and Bed Rolls

teepeebedroll.jpg

As a child, I loved forts and sleeping outside. You'd obviously not want your toddler to do so though (unless you are there too), so this is the best of both worlds. The Pink Western TeePee is like a tent for indoors. The teepee, which is also available in Red Geronimo is made of pine poles with fabric covering them. You could use this alone as a fort, or buy the Western States Bed Roll in pink or blue so your child could sleep under the teepee.

Barnyard Sleep Sack

barnyardsleepsack.jpg

We've been using sleep sacks for quite some time now with Anderson. They're a great: we don't have to worry about him being too cool at night, and we don't have to worry about him kicking off the blankets at night. These sleep sacks from Alex Casey Baby don't come in the usual boring designs. Featuring bright colors and characters they're functional and sure to delight. The simple design features snaps at the shoulders and a zipper that goes across the bottom and up the right side. Hopefully, this will help prevent your child from removing the sleep sack himself (as Anderson has been known to do at times).

Garden Crib Set by Dwellbaby

dwellgardencribset.jpg

You've probably realized that I'm a fan of Dwellbaby. They have the most magnificent patterns and fabrics that I've ever seen. I just discovered their Garden Crib Set, and I am now desparate for a girl so I can buy this. I love brown and pink together, and the floral pattern is beautiful. Included in this set are a reversible quilt, reversible bumper, fitted sheet, and a crib skirt.

Kukunest

kukunestdeepsea.jpg

I recently found Kukunest, and I love it! They make colorful and fun bedding for children. Right now they only have twin sets, but soon they'll be coming out with bedding for cribs, bassinets, and full sized beds too. Each set has a fun theme such as lantern festival and around the world. You can buy a duvet cover, sham, two different coordinating sheet sets (a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and standard pillow case), and a matching art print. Although it can be hard to transition some children from the crib to an adult bed, I think this adorable bedding will at least make it a little more fun for your child.

Zaky: Hands Off Attachment Parenting

Zaky.jpg

Do you like the idea of attachment parenting, but find yourself exhausted by lugging your baby around all the time? This new product, Zaky, may be just what you're looking for. The Zaky was developed for the following reasons:

  • The need to bond parents with the babies when they cannot be together.
  • The resourcefulness of the nurses as they rolled towels, used stuffed animals and improvised other items to provide babies with boundaries, comfort, a sense of security and support when they are not held or touched.
  • The knowledge that hands help babies — it can be seen in the monitors - and that leaving the scent with the baby gives reassurance, a sense of protection and comfort.
  • The need to provide the babies with something familiar and constant.

You can place the Zaky around your neck to give it your scent. You can toss it in the dryer for a few minutes to warm it up. And best of all, its machine washable for cleaning up those inevitable accidents! This is a great baby shower gift — one of those things that new mothers won't even know that they want.

Snuggle Nest

Deluxe_Snuggle_Nest_A_WEB.jpg

We never brought Andy to sleep in our bed. We were always afraid of all the warnings they give you when you choose to co-sleep. But with the Snuggle Nest, you can rest a little easier. To use the Snuggle Nest, you simply place it on your bed between your pillows. The walls provide a safer environment by keeping your child enclosed, and since she is sleeping at head-level, there is less risk of overheating or suffocating from your bedding. Best of all, the Snuggle Nest folds into a small case for easy portability. This would be great for hotel stays, or even when you sleep over at the grandparents house! And when you're ready to make the move to a crib, you can use the Snuggle Nest as a transitional tool to help you baby grow accustom to her new sleeping environment.

Review: Sound Sleeper

soundsleeper.jpg

When Andy was first born, he could sleep through almost anything. Then summer came and we installed an air conditioner into his room to keep him cool at night. It was an old one, and very loud. But once October came, we obviously had to take it out as it was now freezing in his bedroom at night. I didn't know what to do about the sound, or lack thereof in his room. Our upstairs neighbors would bang around a lot, and Andy would be woken up from many of his naps as well as at night. One thing we did is put a fan in his room. But what has really worked best for us is the Sound Sleeper (also available at Baby Wise). Originally we kept it in his crib, now it's on the bureau by his bed, and it's allowed him to get much more sleep because he's no longer woken up all the time. And that's lead to a happier baby and happier parents.
