Looking to ditch the land-fill clogging disposable diapers? Well, here's a reusable diaper for you: the bumGenius One-Size Cloth Diaper. This diaper can be used from birth all the way through potty changing, and each diaper includes an absorbent liner that can hold 15 ounces of moisture. There are easy-to-use closures just like the ones on a disposable (no safety pins!) and elastic at the legs and waist to keep your baby comfortable and dry. If you do plan on using cloth diapers, be sure to buy a few so you're not doing a load of laundry every few hours!
I definitely think diaper cakes are a great idea. If you are crafty and want to try one out yourself, check out the tutorial at Alpha Mom. It actually doesn't look too hard, and I think this is one diaper cake everyone would like to receive!
When we first brought Anderson home, we tracked everything we could in a little notebook that we carried around the house. We did this because we had no idea what we were doing, and we wanted to answer the "how often" questions they ask you at your first pediatrician visits. Well, if you're bringing a newborn home soon, check out this Baby Tracker: Round the Clock. It's a specially designed spiral-bound journal to keep track of feeding, sleeping, diaper changes, and play time. You can keep all your facts, figures, todo's and notes all in one place. Plus, it'll be a neat keepsake for when your child is older.
I've mentioned before how much I like changing pads. We use changing pads on the floor of Andy's nursery instead of his changing table since he's now so wiggly when we change his diaper. And of course they are great for other times too. They are mobile, easy to clean, and can be stored almost anywhere. The changing pads at Pink Taffy are ones to consider if you are in the market for some. They roll up and come with a ribbon tie, are backed with chenille, and can be machine washed. They come in a bunch of great designs too, including brown dot, candy dot, lil' cowpoke, retro rockets, rising star, soft spot blue, soft spot pink, and sage zoo animals.
Laura mentioned to me the other day, that if we ever have another child, I'm required to get my own diaper bag. Well, I don't think I could go wrong with the Rubicon Rucksack, part of the Scout collection at Petunia Pickle Bottom. The inside is divided into 5 compartments 1 large magnetic snap pocket, 2 pockets for easy reach and grab, and 2 bottle pockets. There's another 2 bottle pockets on the outside, and 2 large exterior pockets as well. The best part about this bag is that the interior swaps out to convert into a padded laptop bag. The bag comes in black and brown buffalo leather.
I am not using a diaper bag much anymore, but I'm still starting to look for a new one because my current one is pretty worn out. I really like the Tiffany Classic Tote Set by JP Lizzy. It has microfiber wipeable fabric, a magnetic closure, coordinating changing pad, cosmetic band, and wristlet (which I could use!), a large zippered interior pocket, two other interior pockets, two exterior side pockets, two adjustable interior bottle pockets, and metal feet to protect the bottom. But most importantly to me, it's adorable! I have very little that is pink with a son, but if I ever have a daughter, this is the bag I want!
I love baskets, so of course Sara Bear Baskets are adorable in my eyes. I always changed Andy on his changing table, but for those moms that are happy to do it on the couch, then on their own bed, then somewhere else in the house, these baskets are a huge help. They keep everything in the same spot and can be easily carried while holding your baby. I really like the Sara design, but they are all cute. They have fabric dividers, five compartments including one made to hold the wipes container, and four pockets. Plenty of room for everything you need when you change your baby.
Possibly the ugliest thing in my nursery is the wipes case. It's yellow and plastic and doesn't really match anything else in there. Now, I realize that a wipes case might be silly to some, but if you really want everything in your nursery to look nice, you may want to consider this beautiful Wipes Case at Confetti Kidz. It's available in four different colors, but if you want it to match exactly to your room, you can also have one custom made too. Diapering is dirty business, but at least with this case you can have something pretty to look at besides your baby's bottom.
I know I'd own about 30 diaper bags if I bought every one I saw that I truly fell in love with. Here is yet another one that we think is too adorable for words (yet we'll try anyway). The Kate Bowler by Caden Lane has a two way top zipper, an interior zip pocket, a key chain snap inside, another clasp for a toy or key, spoon loops (I wish my diaper bag had this!), a removable bottle insulator, a small zippered mama sack, and a changing pad with velcro closure. There's also adjustable straps, seven pockets total, and a stain resistant exterior. Most importantly though, it's so pretty. We love the brown and pink combination. If only it was available in a blue too.
Here's a product that I'm sure plenty of people wish they'd come up with. The Nap-Sac is a diaper bag that can also fold out so that it has four padded sides where you can change your baby or place it down for a nap. If you are a new mom who leaves the house with your little one quite often, this is a great and easy way for your baby to sleep wherever you go! It has a padded, adjustable shoulder strap, four expand out pockets, up facing zippers, a wet proof plastic cover for the bottom pad, a zebra print sheet for sleeping, and a cotton slip for changing. It's the perfect multi-tasker!
One of my biggest problems when I take Andy for a walk is the diaper bag. I don't really want to bring my big diaper bag along when I'm staying in my neighborhood, but my regular purse doesn't really work for such a task. I think the Mobi Stroller Bag would be perfect for me. It has a fleece lined iPod/sunglasses pocket, five interior pockets, a double zipper opening, adjustable shoulder strap, stroller attachment, wipes case, changing pad, and is light weight. It'd be perfect for throwing over your shoulder as you head out the door for your walk!
The Ubi Changing Table comes with a bunch of neat features, but what I like the most is that it's on the floor. If you have a hard time getting up and down, this would obviously not be great. But for those of us who seem to spend a ton of time on the floor with our baby anyway, this is a great product. Now that Andy is quite squirmy and mobile, he doesn't not want to lay still on his changing table no matter what. So every diaper change is not only a struggle but a concern because I'm afraid he'll one day fall off. I think a table that sits on the floor would be nice because just laying out a lap pad every time could get to be a pain and may not stay clean if you leave it on the floor. The Ubi has an anti-microbial surface, hypoallergenic upholstery that easily wipes clean, and fastener strips that hold the clean diaper in place while you are changing the baby. There are different fabric and wood options, and a deluxe table also has a built in diaper dispenser that automatically feeds a diaper to the top once the baby is done being changed. My only concern is that it holds up to 30 lbs, so this wouldn't be great if you have a big baby like me who is about to hit that limit at 14 months.
Looking for a great baby shower gift? Well, the Welcome to the World Baby Wagon is a great choice. Available in pink and blue, it has all sorts of treasures inside perfect for parents of a new born. It includes a hooded terry cloth towel, a receiving blanket, a sleeping gown, long- and short-sleeved onsies, a bib, a burp cloth, a terry velour washcloth, a pair of booties, and a hat all in a bear theme. I'm not so sure you'll be using the wagon to pull your child around, but it will make a great place for storing toys.
Last week we showed you a diaper bag that Brad Pitt is using, so why not cover Angelina Jolie too? Honestly, I had already found this diaper bag and was going to write about it anyway. That it is used by a famous person is just a bonus! The Gigi Storksak Diaper Bag, which is available in black and chocolate, has adjustable shoulder straps, insulated pockets, a wipe-clean lining, and a detachable changing mat. It looks just like a normal purse. If you don't want a diaper bag that looks like one, this is for you.
