Spooky Daddy: Unique Handmade Plush Toys

Laura wrote about Spooky Daddy Toy Co. the other day, but I like their stuff so much I had to get my own word in. They make some awesome plush monsters and animals. Each one is made lovingly by-hand by one (fiendishly clever) father. He makes them all on his sewing machine, taking care to make each one completely baby safe. Fun Ice Teether Babies

These Fun Ice Teether Babies are more than just rattles, they're teethers that you can stick in the freezer and in the washing machine. They have multi-textured paws and feet that are filled with a stay-soft gel. After you stick it in the freezer, the teether will offer some great cooling relief for your baby's tender gums.

Gibson, the plush doggie by Gund

We're starting to have a bit of a problem at Super Cool Baby Headquarters. Andy has a stuffed animal that he loves. It looks just like this adorable plush puppy made by Gund, except it's all blue. Anderson loves playing with the tail for some reason, and he will only suck his thumb when he's holding this dog. The problem? Well, we only have one, and he's beginning to leave it in hard-to-find places (in the master bathroom vanity, or in our hamper). I don't even want to consider the prospect of putting him to bed without his favorite animal. So, please learn from our mistake: either mix it up occasionally, or buy more than one!

Time's Up/Time Out

I think this is such a great idea for a toddler. The Time's Up/Time Out Bear has a standard timer on its belly, so your little one can see it unwind and help understand time management. Just turn the timer and tell your child that it's time to go to bed when it stops (or whatever you need timed). Another suggested use is for time outs. We haven't gotten to that point yet, but I can certainly see how it'd be a good idea for that too. And the bear is quite cute too!

Slumber Bear with Silkie

The Slumber Bear with Silkie is a great idea. It was created by a doctor, and has been used by hospitals and pediatricians for over 25 years. The bear itself is a plush, 10-inch stuffed animal. But the ingenious part of it is the sound box in the stomach. It is loaded with actual womb recordings and has a quick five minute shut off. Five minutes? you're probably asking yourself right now, but its also got a motion sensor that starts the recording all over again if it detects your baby stirring. So, no more creeping into the nursery to turn on a CD player! Finally, Mom should keep the Silkie blankie around her during the day. The blanket will pick up her scent and lend a extra comfort to your baby at night. Definitely a great gift for any new parents!

Here is a very neat and innovative travel companion for your child. Zoobie Pets are a plush toy, a soft pillow, and a comfy blanket all in one. Little Ninj

I wrote about a stuffed ninja before, but I can't help but show you this one too. The Little Ninj would be a funny gift for a new parent, and I could easily see one of my husband's friends giving something like this to Andy. And besides, I love ninjas, and I think it'd be a fun way to decorate a nursery to fill it with ninjas.

My First Giant Warm-Hearted Friend

One of the neatest things to me when I was little were large stuffed animals. I couldn't get enough of them, and when I once received a huge elephant for Christmas, I was ecstatic. Therefore, I love the My First Giant Warm-Hearted Friend. It's 40 inches tall and is made of a silky low pile plush. It's adorable, and I think a lot of little ones would love this as much as I do!

Cuddly Bear Puppet

Anderson has a little blue doggie that he sleeps with every night. Its great because its just the right size for cuddling, and he loves to hold an ear or tail while he sucks his thumb. This Cuddly Bear Puppet looks like it would make a great bedtime and playtime companion. Its made from super soft chenille with cotton fill. However, when the inevitable strikes, you'll have to hand wash it. Not interested in bears? You can also get a cuddly pony, elephant, lamb, or giraffe.

Review: Sleepy Head Bunny

Finding a good stuffed animal for your baby's crib can be tricky. You want something that they can grab, but something that doesn't have anything which might come off and choke your child. The Sleepy Head Bunny from Koo Koo Bears a great example of such an animal. We received one from Koo Koo Bears the other day and we want to tell you all about it.

First, the Sleepy Head Bunny is a great stuffed animal in its own right. Its on the large size, it'll easily be the same size as your newborn. But by the time its safe to give it to your baby it'll be just the right size. All of the eyes and buttons are simply stitched patterns, so you don't have to worry about anything coming off. Even its hat is sewn on, so you don't have to worry about that either. And best of all, its machine washable. We throw our stuffed animals in the wash on occasion when they get a little too grimy.

Review: Wubba Nub Plush Pacifier

Andy never really used a pacifier. This isn't because we didn't want him to. It was because he could never keep hold of it long enough for it to be useful. It's too bad we didn't know about the Wubba Nub earlier. We wrote about this before, but Baby Dagny was kind enough to send us one for review.

The Wubba Nub is essentially a pacifier attached to a small plush toy. The idea is that its a lot easier for a newborn to keep hold of the larger toy than a tiny pacifier. And given its large size, your baby will find it easier to pick up and replace the pacifier should it ever fall out.

All of the Wubba Nub pacifiers are machine washable, so you can just toss it in with your baby's laundry. Over at Baby Dagny, you can buy sets of 2 to 12 pacifiers. They even make special sets for triplets.
